ChemSoc Christmas Lecture and Dinner

Yesterday the UCD Chemistry Society had their annual Christmas Lecture and dinner. Prof. Paul Murphy (NUIG) gave the lecture, which was followed by mulled wine and dinner in Pi restaurant. The event raised funds for the Irish Cancer Society and The Simon Community, two worthy causes. It was great to get together with friends and chemists from across the school for a party.

We had our annual Lab Christmas dinner yesterday. The McGarrigle and Gilheany groups all went to Carluccio’s for dinner, followed by post-dinner drinks in Dublin City centre. A great night was had by all, celebrating a successful year in the lab. Pictured below are the McGarrigle Group (we did have a bigger table for the actual dinner!).

CSCB Symposium

The 18th annual symposium on Recent Advances in Synthesis and Chemical Biology was held yesterday at Trinity College Dublin. The speakers were Prof. Maret Traber (Oregon State University), Prof. Stephen Fletcher (Oxford), Prof. Francesca Paradisi (Bern), Prof. Tobias Ritter (MPI Muelheim), and Prof. Georgios Vassilikogiannakis (Crete). In addition to these 5 excellent plenary talks, Di and Ren presented some of their latest results at the poster session.

Congratulations to Cáoimhe and Ren on their graduations today! Cáoimhe was awarded her MSc and Ren her PhD. Both well deserved and a cause for celebration.
