Amy and Mairead present their research

Amy Mairead at Poster Session Apr 2015 croppedAmy Maguire and Mairead Boland presented results from their final year research projects at a poster session preceeding the UCD Chemistry Society‘s Inaugural Lecture yesterday. The Inaugural Lecture itself was given by Prof Lee Cronin (University of Glasgow). Unfortunately this also marks the end of their research projects in the group. We wish them both every success in their final year exams, and thank them for all their hard work on their projects during the year.

Eoghan a Fellow of the ICI

ICI LogoEoghan has been made a Fellow of the Institute of Chemistry of Ireland. The institute is the professional body representing chemists in Ireland. It traces its roots to meetings in 1922 that led to the formation of the ‘Chemical Association of Ireland’, which later became the ‘Irish Chemical Association’ and then in the forties the ‘Institute of Chemistry of Ireland’. Eoghan has also become a council member of the institute. The institute’s AGM took place last night in DCU, when Dr Noel Fitzpatrick of UCD was made an Honorary Fellow of the Institute (of which there can be no more than 10 living). The AGM was preceeded by a very stimulating Boyle-Higgins Award lecture which was given by Prof Dermot Diamond of DCU.
