Congratulations Vinny!

Congratulations to Vinny who passed his PhD viva voce exam today! After more than 4 years of hard work the day has finally come. It’s great to have something positive to celebrate. The examination was conducted by Prof. David Procter (Uni. Manchester) as the external examiner and Assist. Prof. Marcus Baumann (UCD) as the internal examiner, with Prof. Stefan Oscarson (UCD) as chair. This was the group’s first online PhD viva. Vinny’s PhD was sponsored by a National University of Ireland Traveling PhD Studentship. As part of his PhD he worked in the lab of Prof. Varinder Aggarwal FRS at the University of Bristol. This resulted in a publication in Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. He has published a paper in Org. Lett. from some of his work in UCD and several more will follow. His next research position is a postdoctoral fellowship in the group of ERC awardee Daniele Leonori at the Univ. Manchester. Good luck with the postdoc Vinny!

New paper in J Org Chem

Congratulations to Avene on the publication of her latest paper in J Org Chem. This work was carried out in collaboration with Prof Peter Schreiner and co-workers in the Univ. of Giessen. It started out with a short-term scientific exchange funded under an EU COST action on Organocatalysis (CM0905 ORCA), when we welcomed Raffael Wende to our labs in 2014. Avene’s part was funded by an IRC government of Ireland postgraduate scholarship. The paper can be read online:
